This is an awesome routine that you can do either at the gym or in your home! These 4 exercises will ensure every head of your deltoid muscle is fully trained, to grow the muscle as quickly and effectively a possible. We’ll begin this workout with a compound pressing movement. For this specific workout, we’ll start with a Standing Military Press for 3 sets of 5-8 repetitions. The purpose of this exercise is to overload the muscles with a heavier load (hence the low 5-8 repetitions). Press heavy and maintain good form. Directly after, we’ll be moving into some targeting of the anterior head of our deltoids. We’ll be performing the standing Neutral Grip Front Raise for 3 sets of 12 reps to target this head. Maintain control of the weight, and never incorporate use of assistive muscles in your back. If you can’t prevent yourself from swinging the weight, or arching your back in order to get the weight up, then simply lower the weight. Bad form on this exercise is usually caused from using too heavy of a weight. To target our medial head, we’ll be utilizing the Seated Lateral Raise. The purpose of performing this exercise while seated is to assist in eliminating the role our back plays in helping lift the weight up. The back rest on the bench will be effective in preventing you from arching your back. Make sure to keep your middle and lower back planted on the bench the whole time too. Perform this exercise for 3 sets of 12 repetitions, ensuring you get the weight up just higher than your shoulders. To conclude our workout, we’ll be targeting an incredibly important head of our deltoids. This is the posterior head. A good portion of every guy’s deltoids are ridiculously underdeveloped. The results of an underdeveloped posterior head are plaguing shoulder injuries; the most common injury being rotator cuff damage. Preserve your shoulders, promote the longevity of your lifting career, and NEVER neglect the posterior head of your deltoid. We’ll be performing 3 sets of 15-20 reps for this exercise. But the first thing you must do when trying to get your abs lean is lower your overall body fat. There is no such thing as spot reduction so if you're hoping for this workout to burn fat off your abs, it's not going to happen. But if your body fat is low already and you're trying to build muscle on your obliques to get that "V" cut appearance. Try out these exercises with 30 seconds rest between each one for as many rounds as you can. 1. Spiderman Plank Crunch - Roll your shoulders out to stabilize your body, keep your body in a straight line and drive one knee outward and up to your elbow while crunching at the midsection. To make this harder, you can implement a pushup with the crunch. 2. Rotating Leg Lift Extensions - Starting position is with your back on the ground and legs up towards the ceiling. Once here, you will bring your butt/lower back off the ground by extending your legs towards the ceiling.. But while you do this, make sure you are implementing the twist of your hips otherwise it will only target lower abs and not obliques. 3. Floor Wipers - Starting in the same position as the leg lift extensions except with your arms out to the side for shoulder stabilization. From there, you will lower your legs down to one side until your feet are about 2 inches off the ground and you will bring your legs back up to starting position. Make sure you are focusing on engaging your obliques here and not using your upper body to power your leg movement. 4. Bicycles - Lay on your back with your legs out straight, your hands behind your head and your elbows out to the side. From here you will bring one knee up and one elbow down to meet that knee. What you want to focus on here is the twisting and crunching of your ABS! Imagine as if you are trying to get your shoulder to touch your knee so that you're not cheating your way through the exercise. Try this workout out and let me know what you think! What should I be doing?" There is no black and white answer. It all depends on your goals. Do you want to have more relative strength? In this case you would want to focus more on bodyweight training. If you want to increase your maximal strength, then you should focus on weight training. Do you even have access to a gym? Figure out what your primary goals are where you want to train, then we can start building a structured routine. Let's start with push ups. Can you really build size and strength with bodyweight training? Absolutely! The key here is variation. Increasing variation will increase the intensity and result in progressive overload. Workout Structure: 6-13 reps for hypertrophy 4-5 different exercises 3-5 sets in total 3 times per week Now lets move on to the bench press. Weight training will help us build size and strength a little bit faster, however we should still incorporate some calisthenics into the workout. First step is to find your 1 rep max. From here we can decide how to build size, increase strength and power, muscular endurance, etc. You can do this for all of your compound movements. Workout Structure: 70-85% of 1 rep max, 6-10 reps for hypertrophy 77-95% of 1 rep max, 2-5 reps for maximal strength 3-5 sets in total 3 times per week There are many different goals and types of strength. Find what you enjoy the most. You can definitely build a great physique with bodyweight training. Be sure your nutrition is on point otherwise you will not see the results you want. Stay in a caloric surplus for size (around 500 calories above your maintenance) and get enough protein, carbs, and fats to support your current goal. If you don't have the money, do bodyweight training. If you are in the weight training realm, make sure you are still including calisthenic variations. Keep grindin and keep on working towards whatever you believe is best for your situation!
